A	Not Demonstrated	Committee members don’t get school level updates, no awareness about the current educational scenario There are no or almost negligible signs of awareness among committee members regarding the school level operations and current educational scenario.  Committee members don’t know about the school requirements, various school events, important activities going on, etc. They are not at all aware of the developments in the educational sector, new policies, educational acts, new technologies, etc.
B	Developing	School level updates are  very minimal, very limited awareness about the current educational scenario Attempts are made to update themselves about school level operations and there is some awareness regarding the current educational scenario, but needs a lot of improvement. Need to have frequent school updates, designated person(s) to inform the committeeabout the relevant government policies and decisions, and efforts to upgrade knowledge.
C	Proficient	Well updated regarding school level happenings, the current educational scenario Clear evidence of attempts made to update themselves about school requirements, considerable level of awareness regarding developments in educational sector.Relevant government policies and decisions are informed to the committee by designated members from within the committee. Efforts are taken to upgrade knowledge through participation in professional training or awareness programmes. Need to have periodic, regular and comprehensive school updates, and efforts towards continuous improvement through self as well as peer evaluation.
D	Accomplished	Periodic, regular school level updates, good awareness about current educational scenario, efforts towards continuous improvement through self as well as peer evaluation The SMC continuously updates itself about school level operations, short-term and long-term requirements as well as the physical and psychosocial environment of the school; there is thorough awareness about current educational scenario among the committee members. Committee members attend various training/ awareness programmes organized by government, NGOs, etc. regarding school governance related matters, they have clear knowledge about all the educational acts, applicable norms, government policies, new promising technologies, and various government/ private sector initiatives to improve educational quality. Efforts for continuous improvement through self and peer evaluation of members’ awareness and updates, followed by implementation of improvement actions.
E	Distinguished	Continuous and thorough school level updates, thorough awareness about the implications and future prospects of the changing educational scenario, proactive approach towards upgrading knowledge and skills The committee continuously updates  itself about school level operations, there is thorough awareness of the  current educational scenario among the committee members; moreover the committee members make continuous efforts to upgrade their  knowledge and skills and try to identify future prospects of the new policies, emerging educational technologies, etc. Training programmes are organized by the committee to improve the members’ awareness about good school governance practices, community participation, etc. The innovative practices for updating about school level operations and building committee members’ awareness have been successfully showcased to other schools.
